Departure
On June 2, 2025, I embarked on a business trip to Masuda City in Shimane Prefecture. Traveling from Nagoya, I transferred between trains, making the journey itself an enjoyable part of the trip. Watching the scenery from the train window, I felt excited to revisit the San’in region after a long time.

The Shinkansen ride from Nagoya Station to Shin-Yamaguchi took just under three hours, passing through major cities like Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, and Hiroshima. Osaka, in particular, stood out as a bustling metropolis. As the train moved westward along the Sanyo route, the urban landscapes gradually gave way to more natural scenery.

Transition to Local Lines
At Shin-Yamaguchi, I switched to the limited express train “Super Oki,” a quiet two-car train. Opting for an unreserved seat, I found the carriage comfortably uncrowded. The Yamaguchi Line offered lush green views, with rice paddies freshly planted, signaling the arrival of early summer.

Captivated by the tranquil scenery, I couldn’t help but take a photo from the window. The peaceful landscape provided a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life.
Arrival in Masuda
As the train approached its final stop, Masuda, I anticipated the work ahead in this serene town surrounded by sea and mountains. The journey itself had already served as a mental refresh. Business trips can indeed feel like small adventures when viewed from a different perspective.

Cycling Around the City
After checking into the hotel, I discovered they offered bicycle rentals. I quickly dropped off my luggage and set out on a cycling trip. My destination was Iwami-Hagi Airport, about 5 kilometers away—a perfect distance for a leisurely ride. At the airport, I watched the runway, soaking in the travel atmosphere.

Visiting Kakinomoto Shrine
On the way back, I stopped by Kakinomoto Shrine. In the quiet precincts, I prayed for the safety of my family and friends, as well as for world peace. Such moments are truly precious.

Before the Social Gathering
Tonight, there’s a social gathering. While part of me wishes to relax alone, I recognize the importance of these connections. I’ll participate and cherish the opportunity to build relationships.
Summary
Traveling from Nagoya to Masuda by train was a lengthy journey, but witnessing the transition from urban landscapes to the natural beauty of the San’in region was a rewarding experience. I hope to continue documenting such journeys in the future.
